One hundred sixty-five overseas Filipino workers facing crisis and distress each walked away with a share of more than P8.3 million in support released by the Department of Migrant Workers on September 8 at its Central Office.
The payout came through the agency’s AKSYON Fund, a mechanism built to reach OFWs and their families caught in emergencies, crises, or other difficult circumstances. It operates under the UPLIFT initiative launched at the direction of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
Addressing the recipients, DMW National Capital Region Regional Director Atty. Falconi Ace Millar relayed a reminder from Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac urging beneficiaries to put the money toward genuine needs.
“Mga kababayan, ang kabilin-bilinan ng ating butihing Kalihim ay ilagay natin sa mabuting bagay ang ating natanggap na AKSYON Fund assistance,” Millar said.
The disbursement forms part of the department’s standing effort to move help quickly to workers who need it most during periods of hardship. Millar framed the fund as one piece of a broader, government-wide push to protect the welfare and rights of migrant workers and the households that depend on them.
