‘Can you guys step up?’ Kylie Verzosa stands up against body shamers criticizing her appearance

Kylie Verzosa, the acclaimed actress, recently found herself at the center of controversy after posting a “Get Ready With Me” video on her Instagram account. In the clip, Verzosa showcased her attire for an annual festival hosted by high-end online retailer Revolve, sporting a diamond bikini top paired with light-blue cargo pants and white boots.

However, what was meant to be a simple share of her festival look quickly turned sour as the comments section filled with derogatory remarks targeting her physique. Many social media users criticized Verzosa for her slender figure, with some going as far as accusing her of suffering from eating disorders.

One commenter remarked, “You have to eat sweetie… you look malnourished which is no bueno (not good).” While another wrote, “Malnourished na pagkapayat! I [liked] her body last year.”

The situation escalated with comments suggesting Verzosa was suffering from anorexia. “I hope you don’t let the pressures of having a Victoria’s Secret model warp your perception of what a healthy body is. This seems borderline anorexic,” one user expressed.

In response to the onslaught of criticism, Verzosa condemned the body-shaming mentality prevalent among her bashers. She challenged them to rise above such harmful behavior, stating, “The amount of hate I’m getting for my face and body is absurd, and it’s only in the Philippines. Can you guys step up? We’re behind in so many things already and still we’re putting people down for the way we look.”

Despite the negativity, Verzosa found support from defenders who countered the insults and affirmed her well-being. “Some of you come here as if you have a criteria for judging. Mind your own body na lang po,” one user asserted. Verzosa herself reiterated her commitment to a healthy lifestyle, expressing gratitude to those who stood by her side.

Reflecting on the incident, Verzosa lamented how such instances make it difficult to appreciate her home country. She urged others to prioritize kindness and personal growth, emphasizing that “Being kind to one another will always be in.”

This is not the first time Verzosa has faced criticism regarding her body. Earlier this year, she addressed similar comments after sharing vacation photos, reaffirming her commitment to self-care and dismissing unfounded concerns about her health.
