Arroyo denies involvement in alleged plot to oust Speaker Dy

Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has flatly rejected claims that she is working to remove House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III from his post, calling the allegations that emerged Thursday baseless.

“I categorically deny the allegations concerning the supposed ouster of Speaker Bojie Dy that surfaced yesterday (Thursday, April 9),” Arroyo said in a statement posted to her Facebook account on Friday.

The former president went further, invoking a long-standing political relationship with the Dy family as evidence of her continued backing for the speaker. “I reaffirm my confidence in his leadership of the House of Representatives. Our mutual support, which began many years ago with his late father, remains unbroken,” she said.

Dy has held the speakership since Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez stepped down from the position seven months ago. Arroyo herself is no stranger to the dynamics of House leadership — she served as speaker from 2018 to 2019, a tenure that began after a successful move against then-Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez of Davao del Norte.

Arroyo has represented Pampanga’s second district since 2010, with a break in her congressional service before returning in 2022.
