Charity work sits alongside competition for the players of the Al Barsha Volleyball League (ABVL), which is now celebrating six years of play at Al Barsha Pond Park.
The group describes itself as more than a sports club. Members look out for one another, and the league periodically puts together activities to support a cause, according to its anniversary announcement.
Regular sessions take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Dubai park. On some Saturdays, the league switches formats and holds one-day tournaments or special games.
Experience is not a requirement. The league welcomes seasoned players and those who only want to play for fun, and it also pitches itself to newcomers hoping to make friends through the sport.
