A kidney transplant performed at Dubai Hospital in April 2026 has restored the health of a 46-year-old Filipino resident whose kidneys had been failing, marking a recovery that his medical team credits to a charity-backed donation program.
Rodulfo Junior Domancas Alar received the transplant after Al Jalila Foundation accepted him into its “Your Donation is Life” initiative, which covers the cost of kidney transplant surgery and the surrounding medical care for eligible patients. He first heard about the possibility of applying during a routine follow-up appointment, and once accepted, he moved into the detailed medical assessments required before any transplant can proceed.
Dr. Rishabh Kumar Jain, a consultant nephrologist and transplant physician at Dubai Hospital, said in the Gulf Today report that the procedure became the decisive point in Alar’s care. Following the April 2026 operation, the doctor reported that Alar’s kidney function recovered strongly and that his overall health and daily life improved noticeably.
Alar’s path to that point began in 2024, when a sudden spike in blood pressure sent him to Rashid Hospital. Testing there showed he was already in stage 4 of chronic kidney disease, and he was moved to Dubai Hospital for specialized treatment under Dr. Jain. The physician explained that the elevated blood pressure had worn down Alar’s kidney function to the point where dialysis became necessary.
The wait ended a few months after he completed the program’s medical requirements, when doctors informed him that a compatible donor had been found. Recalling that news, Alar said: “I will never forget the moment they told me a matching donor was found. My family and I celebrated the news, as we had long waited for with hope”. He expressed thanks to the foundation, the doctors, nurses, and the wider medical team, along with the donor and their family, adding: I will remain grateful to everyone who was a reason for this new beginning.
Dr. Amna Khalifa Al Hadari, consultant and head of the nephrology department at Dubai Hospital, described how the program works alongside the national “Hayat” organ donation effort. “The programme embodies the integration of efforts with the National Programme for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue “Hayat”, supporting the access of eligible patients to organ transplantation in a timely manner, and ensuring continuity of care after the operation. Potential donors and recipients also undergo comprehensive evaluations to verify their eligibility, according to the highest standards of safety and quality.”
