Long-term expatriates in the UAE now have a simpler path to Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, thanks to a seasonal exemption that lets qualifying residents skip the visa process entirely. The arrangement, put in place by Montenegro’s government, permits stays of up to 10 days and runs through the peak travel months of 2026.
Eligibility hinges on how long a person has lived in the Emirates. According to Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the waiver is open to foreign passport holders who have kept a valid UAE residence permit continuously for a minimum of three years. Shorter or interrupted residency does not qualify.
Several conditions attach to the entry. Travelers need to fly into Montenegro directly, carry a passport that remains valid through their trip, and show proof of a pre-arranged tour package. The exemption period began on May 1, 2026, and stays in force until October 1, 2026.
Montenegro is not alone in easing access for people based in the UAE. A number of countries have introduced streamlined tourist entry for eligible residents, with the specifics varying by passport and destination. Some grant outright visa-free entry, others issue a visa at the border, and still others rely on electronic authorization applied for ahead of travel.
Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Uzbekistan sit among those destinations, each setting its own qualifying rules and required documents for UAE residents of eligible nationalities.
