Carlos and Eldrew Yulo book multiple apparatus final berths in Zunyi, China

The Philippines secured a rare sibling presence in the late rounds of the 13th Senior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships, as Carlos Yulo and younger brother Karl Eldrew Yulo both punched tickets to apparatus finals in Zunyi, China.

For Eldrew, competing in his first season at the senior level, the qualifying round produced two finals slots. He posted 13.633 on the horizontal bar to land seventh among the qualifiers, then squeezed into the floor exercise final in the eighth and final position with a 13.600.

His older brother, the two-time Olympic champion from Paris 2024 and a repeat world titleholder, advanced on three pieces of apparatus. Carlos was strongest on floor — long his signature event — topping that group at 14.433. He added a fourth-place qualifying mark on the parallel bars at 13.966 and slipped into the horizontal bar final as the last qualifier with 13.466, a score his younger brother bettered.

The horizontal bar result placed Eldrew ahead of Carlos, an unusual reversal between the two as they prepare to chase medals on overlapping apparatus.

Carlos came up just short of a podium in the individual all-around, where his total of 81.864 left him fourth. Japan’s Miwa Teppei claimed the bronze at 82.265. China dominated the standings, with Zhang Boheng — the 2021 all-around world champion and Paris 2024 silver medalist — taking gold at 85.298 and compatriot Yang Haonan finishing second with 82.398.
