A driver will spend three months behind bars and lose his licence for a year after a confrontation near the Al Barsha markets escalated into a dangerous pursuit, Dubai Traffic Prosecution has confirmed.
Counselor Salah Al Falasi, Senior Advocate General and Head of Dubai Traffic Prosecution, said the matter reached prosecutors through a report filed by Al Barsha Police Station. What followed was a sequence of events that prosecutors classified as reckless driving, endangerment of road users, and an attempted assault.
Investigators determined that the trouble began while the victim was trying to leave the Al Barsha markets area. A vehicle stopped ahead of him left him unable to move forward. Behind him sat the accused, who grew impatient and began pressing his horn and flashing his headlights to pressure the victim into clearing the way.
When that produced no result, the accused left his car and confronted the victim directly, questioning why the road was blocked. The victim pointed to the stalled vehicle in front of him and explained that the holdup was not his doing.
That answer did little to defuse the situation. Once the congestion eased and the victim drove off, the accused gave chase. According to the prosecution’s findings, he weaved through traffic erratically, eventually cutting in front of the victim’s car and bringing it to a forced stop. He then stepped out and moved toward the victim with the intent to attack him. The victim swerved away and fled, damaging his vehicle on speed bumps as he escaped.
Authorities arrested the accused and prosecutors charged him with endangering others and damaging another person’s property. The traffic court later handed down the custodial sentence and the one-year licence suspension.
Al Falasi used the case to remind drivers that composure on the road is essential and that confronting other motorists is never acceptable. He noted that responsibility for penalising violations rests with police and traffic authorities alone, and that no driver has standing to take such matters into their own hands.
