A five-year-old Filipino boy and six overseas workers were among the dead repatriated from Kuwait on Sunday morning, as the country’s international airport resumed commercial operations following weeks of closure triggered by the Middle East conflict.
The remains arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s Terminal 1 at 7:00 AM on April 27, 2026 — the first such repatriation flight from Kuwait since the airport shut down on February 28, when hostilities in the region escalated.
The child, who died in an accident in Kuwait, was accompanied home alongside his parents, who are both overseas Filipino workers. The Migrant Workers Office in Kuwait had stepped in to provide legal and medical support to the family — including assistance for the mother, who sustained injuries in the same incident.
The six adult OFWs all died of natural causes.
Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration personnel were at the airport to receive the families. Both agencies have committed transport, funeral, and financial assistance to the bereaved relatives.
Support will also be extended through DMW and OWWA regional offices, which are expected to coordinate welfare services for the families beyond the airport arrival.
