MWO Hong Kong releases P2.7M in AKSYON Fund aid to 42 OFWs

Forty-two overseas Filipino workers in Hong Kong received a combined ₱2.7 million in financial assistance through the Migrant Workers Office’s AKSYON Fund during a distribution event held at the DMW-OWWA OFW Global Center.

The beneficiaries were split into two tranches: 24 workers each received the Hong Kong dollar equivalent of ₱75,000, while the remaining 18 received the equivalent of ₱50,000.

Labor Attaché Cesar L. Chavez Jr. used the occasion to outline improvements to how the office processes aid applications. He said the MWO is moving toward same-day release for applicants who arrive with complete documents, and has introduced a queuing system alongside an online verification platform to reduce processing delays.

Chavez also framed the disbursement as part of a broader institutional commitment. “This initiative reflects the commitment of MWO Hong Kong to support the welfare of our OFW kababayans in Hong Kong,” he said.

Consul General Romulo Victor M. Israel Jr., who led the release alongside Chavez, echoed that position, reaffirming the Philippine Consulate General’s pledge — together with MWO Hong Kong and other attached agencies — to deliver services to Filipinos in the territory more efficiently.

Also present at the event were Consul Von Ryan S. Ferrera, Vice Consul David Bien Paje, Assistant Labor Attaché Nemesia Karen E. Arlan, and Welfare Officer Marilou M. Sumalinog.

Beyond financial aid, the AKSYON Fund covers legal assistance, repatriation, shipment of remains, and other interventions aimed at protecting the rights and welfare of Filipino migrant workers. OFWs seeking to apply may visit the MWO Hong Kong office at the 29th Floor, United Centre, Admiralty.
