Over 1,000 OFW families in Pampanga get cash and rice amid Middle East conflict

More than a thousand households dependent on overseas Filipino workers deployed in the Middle East received a combined package of cash and food assistance from the Pampanga provincial government last Tuesday.

The 1,038 beneficiary families each walked away with P4,000 in cash and a sack of rice during the distribution event held in Mexico, Pampanga on March 31. The monetary aid came from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, while the provincial government shouldered the cost of the rice.

Governor Lilia Pineda personally attended and oversaw the activity, using the occasion to check in on the families and gather information about the conditions their relatives are currently facing abroad.

Beneficiaries were identified jointly by the provincial government, the Public Employment Service Office, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Local and provincial PESO officers played a coordinating role in the process, with Pampanga PESO Head Luningning Vergara among those present at the event.

Others in attendance included 4th District Board Member Vince Calara, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Fe Manarang, Lubao Mayor Esmie Pineda, and municipal PESO managers from across the province.
