A new directive from the leadership in Sharjah has led to the clearance of debts in 143 financial cases, marking the latest round of assistance offered to citizens struggling with unresolved dues.
The order was issued by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Federal Supreme Council, empowering the Sharjah Debt Settlement Committee to wipe out liabilities for individuals convicted in financial cases as well as the estates of deceased residents who left behind unpaid obligations.
Details released by the committee show that this newest round forms part of its 29th batch of approvals, with the value of settled dues reaching Dh73.786 million. The initiative is part of a wider debt-relief programme launched in 2014 to support UAE nationals experiencing severe financial challenges.
Committee Chairman Sheikh Rashid Ahmed bin Al Sheikh said the scheme has handled Dh1.35 billion in settlements so far, extending relief to 2,791 citizens across the emirate.
The debt-clearing efforts coincide with other measures taken in recent months to reduce hardship within the community. In October, Sharjah Police announced the release of 13 inmates as part of its initiatives aimed at strengthening family cohesion and supporting social stability.
