Dubai Police have introduced a pioneering Biometric Tunnel that can identify individuals in just five seconds based on their unique walking style. The innovation, revealed during GITEX Global 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, represents a major advancement in biometric security technology.
Developed by Dubiometrics, the system uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze detailed aspects of body movement — including joint motion, rhythm, and even subtle features like the presence of flat feet. These measurements are combined to create what experts call a “motion fingerprint,” offering a new dimension of accuracy in personal identification.
Lt. Col. Dr. Hamad Mansour Al Awr, the project director, said the tunnel forms part of Dubai Police’s ongoing research and development efforts aimed at advancing forensic technology. He explained that gait data can be integrated with other biometric identifiers such as facial, ear, and body measurements, providing comprehensive evidence for criminal investigations.
Al Awr noted that studying walking patterns allows forensic experts to identify individuals more precisely, especially in cases where traditional identification methods are unavailable, thereby strengthening investigative capabilities.
