Dog awaits dead owner at Caloocan hospital for over a year

A loyal dog named Morgan captured hearts after waiting outside the Manila Central University Hospital in Caloocan for over a year for his owner, who tragically succumbed to COVID-19. The Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF) is now offering him a chance at a new loving home.

Morgan’s poignant display of unwavering loyalty began when his owner was admitted due to COVID-19 complications and subsequently passed away. Unbeknownst to Morgan, his owner would never return. Although the family tried to take him in, Morgan consistently returned to the hospital, a testament to the bond he shared with his owner.

“Morgan’s dedication just goes to show the deep connection pets have with their humans. They truly regard their owners as family,” commented Christian Bondoc, an AKF volunteer.

The hospital community, including guards, doctors, students, and visitors, quickly became enamored with the gentle canine. They took turns caring for him and affectionately named him Morgan, after the hospital morgue he often visited. The hospital staff refrained from reporting him to the pound, fearing he might be euthanized.

The AKF learned of Morgan’s story from a medical sales representative. In early October, the foundation intervened, rescuing him and sharing his story on Facebook, which garnered significant attention with over 2,300 likes.

Bondoc said, “We are glad that Morgan’s story touched so many, and that he now has an opportunity to find a new family.” Currently, Morgan is at AKF’s Capaz, Tarlac facility, recuperating from weight loss and receiving his vaccinations. The organization plans to neuter and rehabilitate him before placing him up for adoption.

Prospective adopters have already reached out, and the AKF plans to rigorously screen and interview them to ensure Morgan, as a senior dog, finds the right home.

Bondoc emphasized the significance of adopting and the life-long commitment it entails. He urged the public to adopt, noting that it not only transforms the life of the animal but can also be a transformative experience for the adopter.

The AKF actively promotes animal adoption and regularly tours malls with animals in need of permanent homes. With numerous animals abandoned or neglected, Bondoc passionately appeals to the public to consider adoption as a way to offer these creatures a brighter future.
