More than 400 scholarship opportunities remain available for children of active overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Cordillera region, offering much-needed support for college students pursuing higher education.
Dina Ponciano, officer-in-charge of OWWA-Cordillera, confirmed in a PNA report on Friday that a total of 440 slots under the agency’s scholarship programs are up for grabs until July 31.
Of this number, 36 slots are available under the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP), targeting second to fifth year college students across the six provinces. Each qualified applicant will receive PHP60,000 in annual financial aid.
The bulk of the remaining slots—310—fall under the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (ODSP), intended for incoming freshmen. “Apayao is given a special consideration because of the economic state of the province,” Ponciano noted, citing the 41 slots allotted to the province, compared to 35 in others.
Another 94 ODSP slots are set aside for continuing college students, with 15 slots per province and an additional four for Apayao, reflecting its previous inclusion among the nation’s 20 poorest provinces.
OWWA has also raised the income cap for eligibility, now allowing OFW families earning up to USD1,000 monthly to apply—an increase from the previous USD600 limit.
Applications are submitted online and processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who miss the cutoff or fail to meet requirements may reapply in the next cycle.
