Woman dies after late-night apartment fire in Sharjah

A 46-year-old Indian woman lost her life after a fire broke out in her apartment in Al Majaz 2, Sharjah late Thursday evening, authorities confirmed.

The blaze erupted around 10:45 p.m. in an eighth-floor unit of an 11-storey residential building. According to Gulf News, officials stated the fire occurred while the woman was reportedly performing a special ritual inside her flat.

Emergency services, including Civil Defence teams, police, and National Ambulance, responded promptly. Despite their efforts, the woman was declared dead at the scene. Her body has been transferred to the forensic laboratory for further examination.

Fortunately, the fire was contained to a single unit and did not extend to the rest of the building, which has 12 apartments on each floor. As a safety measure, the entire eighth floor was sealed off to prevent residents from returning until assessments were completed.

Displaced residents, however, say they were left without assistance. “I injured my leg during the incident and am now staying with a friend,” one resident told Gulf News, highlighting the lack of temporary accommodation or support from the building’s management.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether any safety lapses contributed to the incident.
