UAE’s local job market, already experiencing significant growth in the post-pandemic era, is set to get another boost. Line Investments & Property, an arm of Lulu Group International focused on shopping mall development and management, has teamed up with Star Cinemas. They plan to inaugurate 50 new cinemas across the UAE, potentially employing hundreds in the process.
MA Ashraf Ali, Executive Director of Lulu Group International, expressed enthusiasm for the venture, highlighting the established cinema presence in malls and the opportunity for expansion. “We are expanding our partnership with Star Cinemas as they are bringing all the films to GCC. It’s a beneficial alliance to operate cinemas,” he commented.
As per the outlined plans, each new cinema will demand a workforce of at least 25-30 individuals, amounting to nearly 1,500 job openings.
Star Cinemas, currently operating 76 screens, recently signed an agreement with Line Investments & Property to add 22 more. The contract cements Star Cinemas’ position as the UAE’s second-largest cinema operator, based on screen numbers.
By September 2023, new screens are scheduled to launch: three at Al Raha Mall, nine at Al Wahda Mall, six at Al Foah Mall, and four at Barari Outlet Mall. The pact also includes the future inauguration of Star Cinemas at Dubai Silicon Oasis Mall, Sharjah Central Mall, and RAK Mall in Ras Al Khaimah.
Founder and Chairman of Phars Film & Stars Cinema, Ahmad Golchin, announced that work on the Dubai Silicon Oasis location would start promptly, with Sharjah Central and RAK Mall to follow.
