DFA confirms Harry Roque holds only one valid passport, clears multiple passport claims

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has cleared up speculation surrounding former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, stating definitively that he holds only one valid Philippine passport as of now.

In an official statement, the DFA verified that Roque’s most recent passport was issued in July 2024 and remains valid until July 9, 2034. This 10-year passport is currently the only active regular passport under his name.

The DFA also clarified that Roque’s previous passport, issued on October 16, 2019, was automatically cancelled upon the issuance of his latest passport. During that period, Roque also held a diplomatic passport issued on December 2, 2017, while serving as Presidential Spokesperson. That diplomatic passport expired on December 1, 2022.

Amid allegations from the Department of Justice that Roque held multiple passports—including one regular and one diplomatic—the DFA emphasized that, under Philippine law, citizens are allowed only one active regular passport at any given time. Exceptions are made only for certain government officials traveling on official business.

“The Department of Foreign Affairs can confirm that Mr. Harry Roque holds only one valid regular Philippine passport. All other previously issued under his name have been duly cancelled in accordance with existing rules and regulations,” the DFA said.

The clarification comes as Roque faces legal scrutiny over alleged involvement in a human trafficking case linked to a POGO operation in Pampanga. He has denied the charges and claims political motivation due to his ties with the Duterte family.
