Akbayan Party-list has reiterated its support for the impending impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, citing three main reasons for their continued backing: truth, accountability, and justice.
In a Bandera report, Akbayan Party-list 1st nominee Chel Diokno, alongside fellow nominees Percival Cendana and Dadah Kiram Ismula, addressed questions about their stance on the upcoming trial.
“The impeachment trial is a civilized legal process. It will allow the entire nation to discover the truth,” Diokno explained, underscoring their commitment to transparency. “First, we want the truth to be revealed. Second, we seek accountability, and third, we demand justice for the nation.”
Akbayan is one of the groups that endorsed the impeachment complaint against Duterte in December 2024. The complaint was filed by various civic leaders, religious figures, and advocacy groups.
The impeachment trial is expected to begin after President Bongbong Marcos delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) in July 2025.
Vice President Sara Duterte, in a recent statement, responded to the looming trial with a controversial remark, stating that she desires a “bloodbath” in the proceedings. “I truly want a trial because I want a bloodbath talaga,” Duterte declared.
Reacting to Duterte’s comment, ML Party-list Representative-elect Leila de Lima criticized the vice president’s words on her Facebook page, describing them as “braggadocio, mindless arrogance, toxic rhetoric, and violence.”
