Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has made it clear that he has no plans to run for a higher national position in the 2028 elections, promising to focus on serving Manila instead.
Speaking in an interview with ANC, Moreno emphasized his commitment to the people of Manila, saying he intends to complete his three terms as mayor if given the opportunity.
“I’ve committed to the people,” Moreno declared in Filipino, addressing speculations about a potential bid for vice president or senator. “That is the wish of political analysts. It is only their wish. But I think I’d rather stay in Manila for the next 10 years, if given a chance by the people.”
Moreno, who previously ran for president in 2022, acknowledged the social media buzz suggesting he might be urged by other politicians to aim for a national post. However, he maintained that his focus remains on the local level.
The newly sworn-in mayor also revealed his vision for Manila, announcing a “10-year plan” centered on improving essential services such as housing, education, healthcare, and employment. He also emphasized maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the city.
“I’ve also said that to the people. I don’t have to promise it to anybody, but I have made a commitment to the people of Manila, especially to our grandfathers and grandmothers, senior citizens,” Moreno added.
Moreno officially took his oath of office on May 19 following his decisive victory over outgoing Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, his former ally and running mate in 2019.
