Marcos: Heads will roll if corruption caused Isabela bridge collapse

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered an investigation into the collapse of the Cabagan-Santa Maria bridge in Isabela, warning that those responsible will be held accountable if corruption is found.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed on Saturday that the President discussed the matter and assured a thorough probe into the incident.

“This will be investigated. If corruption is involved from as far back as 2014 until now, those responsible must face consequences,” Castro said in a Radyo Pilipinas interview.

While the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already initiated an inquiry, Castro stressed that the situation is serious and must be examined thoroughly. She also urged local government units to properly assess infrastructure conditions and coordinate with DPWH when necessary.

The DPWH-Cagayan Valley office reported that the bridge’s third span collapsed Thursday night after a dump truck carrying approximately 102 tons of boulders passed through.

The P1.2-billion bridge project started in November 2014 and was completed in February 2025.
