The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has pledged assistance to families of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) impacted by the delayed shipment of thousands of Balikbayan boxes to the Philippines.
In an ABS-CBN News report, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured that affected families would receive support, including financial aid from the agency’s action fund.
To expedite the release of the estimated 14,000 Balikbayan boxes, the DMW has been coordinating with the Bureau of Customs (BOC). So far, 9,000 boxes have been released, while around 5,000 remain held, with half of them in Davao.
Cacdac noted that the BOC has executed a deed of donation, allowing the DMW to take over distribution efforts. In Manila, the agency is following a similar approach, with about 40 boxes already retrieved directly from the warehouse.
