An American Airlines jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members crashed into the Potomac River late Wednesday following a mid-air collision with a military helicopter near Washington, D.C.
In a statement, the airline confirmed that American Eagle Flight 5342 was en route from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C., when the incident occurred near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
Authorities are investigating the crash, and emergency teams have been dispatched to the scene. Further details on casualties or survivors have not yet been released.
