Dubai Mall has solidified its status as “the most visited place on Earth,” welcoming 57 million visitors in the first half of 2024, up from 52 million in the same period last year. In 2023, the mall set a new attendance record with 105 million visitors, a 19% increase from the previous year.
Retail sales at Dubai Mall have also seen a significant boost, with an 8 to 15 percent growth in the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period last year.
Mohamed Alabbar, founder of Emaar, credited the success to the dedication of the team and partners. “Dubai Mall continues to set new benchmarks in retail and leisure, drawing millions from around the world. We are committed to enhancing every aspect of the mall to constantly cement its position as a premier global destination,” Alabbar said in a Khaleej Times report.
In a bid to further elevate its offerings, Emaar Properties announced a massive Dh1.5 billion expansion of Dubai Mall last month. The expansion will add 240 new luxury stores and food and beverage outlets.
Opened in 2008, Dubai Mall is the world’s second-largest shopping mall, spanning 1.2 million square meters. It houses over 1,200 retail outlets, including two anchor department stores and more than 200 restaurants. The mall also features entertainment and leisure attractions such as the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo.
Starting July 1, Dubai Mall has implemented a paid parking system, with a maximum tariff of up to Dh1,000 for 24-hour parking. Some parking areas remain free, and certain individuals are exempt from paying fees. Operated by Salik Company PJSC, Dubai’s exclusive toll gate operator, the new barrier-free parking system has been positively received by shoppers, who reported finding parking easily and close to the entrance on the first day of the system’s implementation.
