British Airways resumes daily flights between London and Abu Dhabi after 4-year hiatus

British Airways has announced the resumption of its services between London and Abu Dhabi, marking a return after a hiatus of four years. The airline revealed that the daily flight from London Heathrow to the newly-opened Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi will be operational year-round.

With the UK being a favored destination for UAE residents for various purposes including leisure, business, and visiting family and friends, especially during the summer season, British Airways plans to operate Boeing 787-9 aircraft on this route.

Calum Laming, the chief customer officer at British Airways, expressed excitement about reconnecting Abu Dhabi with London and beyond, emphasizing the expansion of their global network and enhancing connections with the UAE. He noted that the aircraft will offer four cabins for passengers to choose from.

Laming also shared personal sentiment, stating, “On a personal level, it is an honor to return to the fantastic city and Emirate of Abu Dhabi where I was lucky to live for the best part of a decade.”

Elena Sorlini, managing director and CEO at Abu Dhabi Airports, welcomed the move, highlighting how British Airways’ new flight will enhance connectivity and stimulate both business and tourism.

Moreover, starting from February 22, 2024, UAE citizens have been exempted from the pre-entry visa requirement to enter the UK. Instead, the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system has been adopted, streamlining the entry process for travelers. The ETA, valid for two years, allows multiple visits to the United Kingdom for various purposes, including tourism, visiting relatives, investment, or short-term studies, with each stay not exceeding six months.
