Young Pinoy dance crew wins double gold at world competition in Dubai

Against the backdrop of global competition and intense performances, a young dance crew from the Philippines made waves at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds (WSB) Dubai 2025, clinching two gold medals in both the Junior and Varsity divisions.

Gboyz Juniors, composed entirely of Filipino students aged 10 to 17, took the stage with energy, heart, and grit — and emerged victorious, beating out several international crews.

“We were so happy. We didn’t actually expect to get these golds because other crews danced really well,” shared their coach, Jay Miclat, with TGFM. The group’s success was not just a result of talent but also of hard-earned discipline and sacrifice.

Balancing academics with intensive training proved to be a challenge for the young dancers, especially with the school year in full swing in the Philippines. “It was really hard for us, since school had opened in the Philippines, the practice schedule was not going to be easy,” Miclat explained. “When we decided to join WSB DUBAI, we made sure that after their school time they go to training/practice plus regularly attend dance classes on Saturday.”

Despite their packed schedules, the group found joy in every moment of the competition — not just in winning but also in connecting with fellow dancers from across the world. “Meeting other crew members from different countries and cheering for each other, learning new dance steps and techniques — and definitely, the excitement of the announcement of winners — these were our favorite moments,” Miclat added.

Gboyz Juniors’ journey to Dubai was fueled by a collective dream: to prove to themselves and to others that they are capable of competing on the world stage. “It is really our dream to compete internationally. It was also to prove to ourselves that we can,” Miclat said.

With a message straight from the heart, the coach encouraged other young dancers in the Philippines: “Keep on doing what they love the most. Don’t let anyone kill their passion. And, always believe in themselves.”
