Young Filipina earns summa cum laude at Canadian University Dubai

Long before she crossed the stage at Canadian University Dubai, Caitlin Norin O. Gonzales had already made a habit of finishing at the top.

The 21-year-old Filipina, born in Surigao City and raised entirely in Dubai, graduated this year with summa cum laude distinction, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration major in Accounting and Finance from CUD’s Class of Pride and Glory 2026. The honor capped a university journey defined as much by campus involvement as by academic performance.

At CUD, Gonzales served as President of the Reading Society for two consecutive years, volunteered across university events, and worked as a Social Media Assistant from her second year onward — appearing regularly in content published on the university’s official platforms. In her third year, she completed a two-month summer internship at Emirates Airlines as a Finance Intern, rotating through two departments.

The path to summa cum laude, she said, was not without turbulence. Her final semester brought an unexpected disruption when classes shifted online, casting doubt over whether an in-person graduation — let alone Latin honors — would be possible.

“I learned that when things feel completely out of your control, you focus on what you can do, you do it for the people you love, you keep going for yourself and you trust that God will honor the effort you put in,” she shared with TGFM. “And that is exactly what our batch, the Class of Pride and Glory, did.”

The achievement is also personal in its motivation. Gonzales credits her family as the force behind every milestone she has reached.

“They never once made me feel like anything I wanted was too much,” she said. “They believed in my potential so completely that somehow, it made me believe in it too.”

Her academic foundation was built at the Philippine School Dubai, where she spent 14 years — from kindergarten through Grade 12. During high school, she played the lead role of Bridgette in the school musical When the Stars Align, competed in the World Scholars Cup across tournaments in Vietnam, Thailand, and Dubai, and finished in the Top 5 Overall among more than 2,000 students at the Dubai Global Round in 2022. She served as Senior High School Student Council President before graduating as valedictorian of the Class of 2022.

Accounting and Finance, she explained, was a deliberate choice — one tied to a longer ambition.

“My biggest career dream is to become a corporate lawyer, and I chose Accounting and Finance as my pre-law degree,” she said. “But what drew me to this major specifically was that it is already a strong qualification on its own — one that has sharpened how I think, how I analyze, and how I approach problems.”

Outside her studies, Gonzales has been building a content creation presence under the handle @caittosuccess across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. She is also currently part of Sahara Spotlight, a weekly show at Sahara Center in Sharjah that features young talent across different segments.

To Filipino students still working toward their own goals, her message is direct: “Never stop investing in yourself, and find passion in everything you do. Your degree will open doors, but your character, your work ethic, and your communication skills are what will keep them open.”
