The United States government has committed P84 million, or approximately $1.5 million, to support the Philippine government’s relief and recovery operations for communities hit by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine. The funding, channeled through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to bolster ongoing relief efforts, particularly in heavily impacted areas such as the Bicol Region and Batangas.
According to the US Embassy in Manila, the aid will address essential needs by providing clean water, sanitation facilities, emergency shelter, and cash assistance to affected families. The funding will also enhance logistics, particularly in managing evacuation centers.
US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson extended condolences to those affected, expressing that her “heart goes out to all those suffering the devastating effects of Tropical Storm Kristine.” Carlson emphasized that the US is working closely with the Philippine government to bring critical relief to those in need.
Since October 25, the US, in collaboration with humanitarian partners, has utilized prepositioned relief supplies to meet urgent needs across affected regions. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported 125 confirmed fatalities, 28 missing, and 115 injured as of Tuesday morning.
