A civil court in Al Ain has held a woman financially liable for offending a man through a text message, awarding him AED 10,000 to cover the harm he sustained, according to Gulf Today.
The figure fell far short of what the complainant had sought. His original suit before the Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases Court demanded AED 100,000, an amount the court declined to grant in full.
According to the case file, the man built his claim on a criminal verdict that had already found the woman guilty over the offending message. He supported this with documentation from the Al Ain Appeals Prosecution confirming that no cassation challenge had been lodged against that ruling, which meant it stood as final and binding.
The woman contested the action. In a written response, she attached records of phone exchanges between the two parties along with copies of separate court decisions, maintaining that the man’s account of events did not hold up. Both sides submitted their arguments through an exchange of memoranda before the court proceeded to rule.
In reaching its decision, the court treated the earlier criminal conviction as settled. Because that judgment had established the insult and carried binding authority over the civil proceedings, the bench was barred from reopening the question of guilt, leaving the woman’s legal fault firmly on record.
