Families flying out of the UAE next month could cut close to AED 2,000 from their return airfare simply by moving their departure by a week or two, according to new summer travel data from Skyscanner.
The travel platform’s analysis of the five most popular summer destinations among UAE travelers found that the week beginning August 31 is the cheapest week of the season to fly overall — a finding that runs counter to the assumption held by 52 percent of travelers surveyed, who believe July offers the lowest fares.
Cairo shows one of the widest gaps. Return flights average AED 1,592 per traveler across the summer, dropping to AED 1,105 during the cheapest week beginning August 17. That works out to roughly AED 487 per person, or AED 1,949 for a family of four. Tokyo delivers an even larger reduction: fares average AED 2,209 for the season but fall to AED 1,686 in the week of August 31, a saving of about AED 522 per traveler, or AED 2,088 for four.
Manila ranks second among the most-searched destinations. Return fares there average AED 1,791, falling to AED 1,465 during the week beginning August 31 — around AED 327 per person, or AED 1,306 for a family of four. Kochi, India offers savings of AED 356 per traveler in the same week, while Denpasar, Indonesia is cheapest in the week of August 24, at AED 1,680 against a summer average of AED 2,111.
The data shows no single cheapest week applies across all routes, making destination-specific comparison necessary rather than optional.
Timing flexibility remains limited for many. Only 33 percent of UAE travelers say they can move their travel dates freely, while 27 percent report that school holidays or other commitments lock them in. Almost half — 47 percent — have yet to book at all and are still searching, with an estimated spend of AED 1,433 per person on flights.
Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner, said: “Summer travel planning has become increasingly complex, particularly for families balancing school calendars, budgets and changing flight prices. Our data shows that travellers do not necessarily need to compromise on their preferred destination to find better value. Checking a wider range of dates and comparing the cheapest weeks can uncover substantial savings, which can then be put towards accommodation, experiences or simply making the overall holiday more affordable.”
Fares move with availability and demand, so travelers are advised to check live prices and review an entire month’s rates before committing to a booking.
