UAE defence ministry taps AI to sharpen military planning and operations

The UAE Ministry of Defence is moving to embed artificial intelligence and digital systems across its operations, announcing a broad package of technology projects aimed at modernising how the armed forces plan, manage resources, and respond to security developments.

Oversight of the initiative falls under the Office of the Assistant Minister of State for Digital Transformation, Technology and Artificial Intelligence, which will coordinate implementation alongside a group of strategic partners. The ministry said the rollout is being carried out under directives from the country’s leadership.

Among the programme’s stated priorities is the use of AI to strengthen planning processes and data analysis capabilities, as well as the development of more efficient systems for resource management across defence operations.

The ministry framed the push as part of its alignment with the UAE Digital Transformation Strategy 2031, a national agenda targeting a leaner, more responsive government apparatus. Defence officials said the projects are intended to accelerate the uptake of advanced technologies sector-wide, with the broader goal of positioning the armed forces among institutions at the forefront of AI adoption.

Beyond internal efficiency, the programme also targets the ministry’s capacity to respond to fast-moving security and technological challenges, both within the country and internationally.

Officials said the initiative extends to upgrading digital infrastructure and building national capabilities that can sustain and lead future transformation efforts—not just implement the current round of projects.
