Trump’s portrait to appear in limited-edition US passports marking 250th anniversary

A limited run of commemorative U.S. passports featuring a portrait of President Donald Trump will be issued this July, the State Department announced Tuesday, adding to a growing list of official government materials bearing the president’s image or name.

The passports are tied to celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. Renderings released by the department show Trump’s portrait printed on an interior page, facing an illustration of the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed the release in a statement that described the design without explicitly naming Trump’s image as a feature. “These passports will feature customized artwork and enhanced imagery while maintaining the same security features that make the U.S. passport the most secure documents in the world,” Pigott said.

A department official indicated no additional charge would be applied to receive one of the commemorative passports, though it remained unclear whether citizens could opt out of receiving the special edition.

The passport announcement comes alongside separate efforts by other federal agencies to incorporate Trump’s likeness into official materials. The U.S. Mint has disclosed plans for a commemorative gold coin featuring Trump’s image to mark the founding anniversary, while the Treasury Department has said paper currency will carry Trump’s signature — a first for a sitting U.S. president.

Beyond imagery, the Trump administration has attached the president’s name to several federal institutions and programs since he returned to office, including prominent Washington buildings, a Navy warship class, a visa program for wealthy foreign nationals, a government prescription drug platform, and federal savings accounts established for children.
