Tourist who lost AED 3,000 in a Dubai mall gets it back after she had already flown home

An Arab tourist who gave up on recovering the AED 3,000 she misplaced during a shopping trip in Dubai received word that the full sum had been located and wired to her account in her home country — only hours after her flight had already left the UAE.

The recovery traces back to a report the woman filed through the Tourist Support Service feature on the Dubai Police app. She explained that the money had gone missing inside a shopping mall, and that her imminent departure left her no way to retrace her steps or revisit the location herself.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdul Rahman, who heads the Tourist Police Department, said officers told the tourist her case would be taken up without delay, and that any recovered funds would be sent on to her wherever she was.

Acting on that assurance, the department’s Shopping Mall Security unit assembled a field team that traced the woman’s path through the venue and reviewed her movements while she had been inside.

The search paid off quickly. Within two hours, the officers tracked the entire amount to one of the mall’s shops, reached out to the tourist, and arranged the transfer.

For the woman, the outcome was unexpected. She said she had not counted on seeing the cash again given how packed the mall had been, and expressed relief once it was returned.
