Study shows 83% of UAE residents lack sufficient fruit and veg consumption

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has rolled out a campaign spanning February and March, offering practical advice on integrating vital fruits and vegetables into daily meals. The initiative addresses common obstacles such as affordability, availability, and time constraints that hinder healthy eating habits.

The campaign aims to encourage residents to consume five servings of fruits and vegetables daily, emphasizing their rich nutrient content essential for good health. It also advocates for selecting produce from local sustainable sources, promoting both nutritional well-being and environmental responsibility.

Various locations including RAK Mall in Ras Al Khaimah, Qidfa Corniche in Fujairah, and City Centre Ajman hosted the campaign, reaching out to different segments of society.

Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, emphasized the campaign’s goal of providing sound advice on healthy eating to all community members.

Nouf Khamis Al Ali, Director of the Health Promotion Department at MoHAP, highlighted the initiative’s launch following a study revealing that 83% of community members do not meet the recommended intake of fruits and vegetables.
