Two sisters from Kazakhstan were preparing to fly home to see their families in early September when contact with them abruptly stopped in mid-August, according to Kazakh media accounts of a case that has ended in tragedy in the UAE.
Sharjah Police confirmed that the women, aged 20 and 22, were discovered dead inside an apartment in the emirate after a report was filed about their disappearance. Authorities said they have opened an investigation into how the two died and that a formal statement laying out the details will follow once that inquiry wraps up.
The women had been living in the country for under a year. Kazakh outlets reported that the pair landed in Dubai in December 2025 to take jobs at a beauty salon and had settled in Sharjah. The same reports indicated the sisters had stopped answering messages on August 17, prompting relatives to reach out to the Kazakh Consulate, which led to the filing of the missing-person report.
Public awareness of the case grew after a poster seeking information about the women spread through WhatsApp. That message asserted the sisters had been dealing with a Russian-speaking Kazakh man who reportedly arranged housing for them. It further claimed their social media profiles had been taken down and that they had become unreachable by both phone and WhatsApp.
Acting on the report, Sharjah Police mounted a search that ended with officers finding the women at the apartment.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to the state information agency Kazinform, had earlier acknowledged the deaths. The ministry stated that the Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Dubai was extending consular and legal support to the family, covering documentation and coordination with Emirati officials.
The remains were sent back to Kazakhstan on August 28, a process Sharjah Police helped arrange in cooperation with Kazakh authorities.
