A new metro line set to expand Dubai’s rail network by a quarter has been announced, with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum describing it as part of an accelerating push to improve quality of life for millions.
The Gold Line will stretch 42 kilometres across 15 key areas of the city and carry a price tag of AED34 billion. Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the project on X, saying it would directly benefit 1.5 million residents.
“Our future endeavours will not stop; rather, they will accelerate. Our plan is to build a better future for millions of people. We stand by our words and deliver on them,” he said.
Beyond passenger connectivity, the line is expected to serve 55 major real estate developments currently under construction — a detail that points to its role in supporting Dubai’s broader urban expansion rather than simply relieving existing transit pressure.
The project is scheduled for completion on September 9, 2032. Officials say it will strengthen Dubai’s standing as a leading global city for liveability.
