Residents and tourists in Sharjah have a new attraction to explore with the inauguration of Al Hefaiyah Lake, which serves as a strategic water reservoir for the city. The lake, located on the Sharjah-Kalba Road after Al Hiyar Tunnel, is part of the emirate’s urban development projects, offering a picturesque view and recreational facilities.
Covering 132,000 square meters, the lake boasts modern construction technology, including innovative materials suitable for the hilly climate of the region. Equipped with a capacity of 155 million gallons and a depth of up to four meters, it features a 3.2-kilometer-long water conduit to channel water from lowlands and surrounding mountains.
Inaugurated by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the event saw the presence of other dignitaries, including Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. The lake offers various recreational activities, including a 3.17-kilometer dual-lane road encircling it, allowing for leisurely strolls, and a 620-square-meter play area for children.
Moreover, the project includes the Al Hefaiyah Mosque, covering 852 square meters and designed in the Fatimid style, with a 36-meter-tall minaret and facilities for worshippers. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the Al Hefaiyah Rest House, offering a direct view of the lake and Kalba’s high mountains, as well as a play area and green space.
