A minibus slammed into the rear of a stationary truck on Dubai’s Emirates Road, leaving seven people dead and nine others wounded, according to a Khaleej Times report, citing Dubai Police.
Investigators believe the truck had halted abruptly in the roadway after suffering a mechanical breakdown. Authorities allege the minibus driver was not paying sufficient attention and had failed to maintain an adequate gap behind the vehicle ahead, striking it from behind.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, who heads the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said rescue crews and traffic patrols were sent to the location after the force’s Command and Control Centre was alerted to the crash.
The casualties were detailed by the brigadier, who confirmed the breakdown of those hurt. “The accident resulted in seven fatalities and nine injuries, including five serious and four moderate injuries. All injured were transported to hospital for treatment,” he said.
Khaleej Times reported the incident, which remains a developing story.
