Schools in PH set to revert to traditional calendar for 2024-2025 academic year

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Education have greenlit a plan to resume classes in schools nationwide on July 29 for the School Year 2024-2025. The decision aims to transition back to the traditional academic calendar, with the school year scheduled to conclude on April 15, 2025, according to Malacañang.

This move follows a sectoral meeting involving President Marcos Jr. and Education Secretary Vice President Sara Duterte, where the decision was reached in response to public concerns regarding the class schedule.

“In response to public concerns on the schedule of classes, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday approved to start reverting the country’s school calendar to the traditional arrangement,” stated Malacañang.

Since 2020, schools had postponed the start of classes to August due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the suspension of face-to-face classes. Now, with the return of in-person learning, schools have faced new challenges, including the recent suspension of classes due to extreme heat brought on by El Niño or the dry season.
