Documents obtained by the House Committee on Justice show that Vice President Sara Duterte carried P3.75 million in outstanding personal loans as of mid-2022, all attributed to her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, according to her Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth filed that year.
The SALN, dated as of June 30, 2022, lists total assets of P74.8 million against those liabilities, placing her declared net worth at P71.06 million.
Real property makes up the bulk of the declared holdings. The document lists agricultural and residential lots spread across Davao City, Ilocos, and Metro Manila, along with memorial lots in Barangay Magtuod, Davao City acquired in 2014. A residential property in Paranaque valued at P702,010 at fair market value was purchased in 2013 for P2.2 million. Several lots in Ilocos were acquired in 2016 and 2019. The real property subtotal reaches P50.9 million.
Carpio, who is listed in the SALN as a lawyer with Carpio Duterte Lawyers on Roman Avenue in Davao City, also declared business interests including a stake in CALE88 Foods Corp., 888 Bistro as sole proprietor, and Madayaw Fisheries, Inc. — all in Davao City and all acquired in 2021.
On Sara Duterte’s side of the business interests section, the filing identifies her as an incorporator or stockholder in Metro City Chow Foods Corp. since 2007, Timesquare Bee Foods Corp. since 2013, and a non-stock, non-profit organization called Tapang at Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines, Inc. since 2017. A prior connection to Davao New Royal Taipan Corp. is listed as retired.
The document also discloses relatives in government service within the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity. Among those listed are her brothers Paolo Z. Duterte, a Davao City congressman, and Sebastian Z. Duterte, Davao City mayor. Her uncle-in-law, Emmanuele C. Carpio, is identified as a judge at the Regional Trial Court in Davao City.
The House Committee on Justice is currently conducting impeachment proceedings against the Vice President.
