RTA to deploy 30 electric buses in Dubai areas including Business Bay and Dubai Mall

In a significant push towards sustainable transport, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced plans to deploy 30 electric buses across key areas such as Business Bay, Al Wasl Road, and Dubai Mall. This move is part of a broader initiative to replace diesel-powered buses with electric ones, aligning with Dubai’s strategy for zero-emission public transport.

According to Khaleej Times, the RTA has not yet disclosed the fee structure for these electric buses or the specific dates for their rollout. Previously, in August of the last year, the RTA conducted a trial where passengers enjoyed free rides on an electric bus route that included several major stops from La Mer to Al Sufouh.

During the trial, commuters were required to tap their nol cards, although no charges were applied. The electric buses covered several key locations including La Mer South, Wild Wadi, Mercato Mall, and the Burj Al Arab.

The RTA emphasized its commitment to gradually converting its fleet of buses from diesel to electric models, as part of Dubai’s comprehensive clean energy strategy. This strategy also includes the adoption of hybrid vehicles, along with the installation of energy-efficient street lighting and facilities.
