There are men who merely occupy space in this world, and then there are visionaries who build sanctuaries of hope, knowledge, and camaraderie for others. Sir Michael V. Salindong, 54 years old, was, without question, the latter. To the global Filipino community in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he was a creative powerhouse, a corporate brand leader, and an elite athlete. But to those of us who stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him in the trenches of community service, he was much more.
He was a beloved brother, a trusted confidant, a legendary fellow officer, and an irreplaceable pillar of the Computer Society of Filipinos International (COMSOFIL), Riyadh Headquarters. As we bid our final, heartbreaking farewell to this exceptional man, we gather not just to mourn his passing, but to celebrate a monumental life driven by passion, purpose, and an unwavering love for his fellow Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
Analytical mind and creative soul
Sir Michael’s life was a masterclass in balancing logic with artistic genius. His journey began with a sharp analytical foundation, honing his discipline during his secondary years at San Beda College (1983–1987) and earning his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in 1992. Yet his soul belonged to the canvas of the digital future. Recognizing the rising tide of technology, he expanded his horizons with Multimedia Arts at De La Salle University (1998–1999).
This rare combination of mathematical precision and creative flair propelled him into a stellar 21-year career in digital design, 3D artistry, web development, and branding across the Middle East. From his early days at ZAFNET IT & Communication to his leadership roles at Mass Media Advertising in Qatar and Myriad International, he ultimately spent over a decade leading global corporate identity as the Brand Manager for Al Bassami International Business Group. He was a master of his craft, but his true masterpiece was what he did with that knowledge outside the corporate walls.
Unmatched pillar of COMSOFIL (2007–2022)
While his professional resume was elite, Sir Michael’s heart belonged to service. Serving on the Board of Directors for COMSOFIL from 2002 to 2007, he laid the organizational groundwork for what would become a premier training ground for OFWs. For fifteen beautiful years, spanning from 2007 to 2022, Sir Michael served as an anchor lecturer, dedicating his weekends to teaching Special Effects and digital arts. He didn’t just teach software; he gave his students a lifeline. He transformed ordinary workers into confident professionals, ensuring that thousands of COMSOFIL graduates left his classroom with the tools to change their destinies. He believed fiercely in the hidden potential of every Filipino, leaving behind an agonizing void among the faculty, officers, and the generations of graduates who look back at those years with immense gratitude and love.
Legend of community wellness
On the basketball courts of Riyadh, Sir Michael’s name was synonymous with excellence, respect, and brotherhood. As the driving force behind Team Salindong and a pillar of the Second Philippine International School Parents Sports Organizer Riyadh (SPIS-PSOR), he weaponized sports as a tool for mental health, physical wellness, and pure Filipino camaraderie.
Even against the younger generation, his athletic brilliance shone brightly, culminating in his 2021–2022 League MVP title, a 2023 All-Star selection, and the legendary 2023–2024 Season 18 MVP crown. Yet whether he was hitting a clutch shot or organizing a weekend league, his primary goal was always to bring people together, creating a safe space of joy and brotherhood for Filipinos living far from home.
Mission-vision frozen in time
Sir Michael lived exactly by the words he preached. His professional credo remains a guiding light for the creative community:
“I’m a creative artist and designer with expertise in design and branding development and digital marketing… My biggest passion is to provide creative tools that help anyone give a voice to their ideas.”
He did not hoard his genius; he actively sought out those who were just starting, leaving a permanent legacy of empowerment through his final mission statement:
“One of my missions is to help young entrepreneurs and startups design their branding and/or create their communication tools that will help them voice their ideas. I will be honored to meet you and work with you.”
To Edith and our hearts in COMSOFIL: my heart breaks with yours during this incredibly dark hour. Michael loved you fiercely, and everything he built in Riyadh was fueled by his desire to honor you and his family. The days ahead will require immense courage, but I pray you find solace in the beautiful memories you shared and the quiet strength of your son, Sean Mikkolas. Take care of yourself, lean heavily on the love of your children, and look to Sean as a living reminder of Michael’s enduring love for you. As long as you hold each other close, Michael’s spirit will always be right there, guiding your steps. You are surrounded by a community that loves you. Rest your heart, Sister, for he is at peace.

To the world, he was an executive, a lecturer, and an MVP. But to his peers, his fellow officers, and his sports colleagues, he was a piece of our hearts. We will miss his laughter, his brilliant guidance during late-night organizational meetings, his leadership on the hardwood, and the quiet dignity with which he carried his immense talent.
Salute, Sir Michael V. Salindong. Your final shift is done, your last lecture has been delivered, and your final game has been beautifully played. You have left the courts and the classrooms of Riyadh infinitely better than you found them. Rest in power in the arms of our Creator, dear friend. Your legacy is secure, and you will never be forgotten.
