The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group confirmed Thursday that Filipino rapper Hev Abi, whose real name is Gabriel Abilla, has been in its custody since April 14, two days before the disclosure became public.
CIDG Public Information Office chief PMaj. Helen Dela Cruz said the arrest was carried out under a search warrant for firearms. An official statement from the unit is forthcoming.
The 24-year-old Quezon City rapper rose to mainstream prominence in 2023 on the strength of tracks including “WELCOME2DTQ” and “Para Sa Streets,” accumulating 5.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify at the peak of his popularity. His debut album Kung Alam Mo Lang placed him among the most-streamed OPM acts of that year.
Dela Cruz did not disclose the specific circumstances of the arrest or the location where the search warrant was served.
