A maritime rescue effort off the Qatari coast ended in the death of one citizen and the wounding of another person on board, after authorities traced a boat that had missed its expected return time.
Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security acted once verification checks confirmed the vessel was overdue. Patrol units began searching the waters on the evening of Saturday, June 27, 2026.
The Maritime Search and Rescue Team reached the boat during the early hours of the following morning, Sunday, June 28, according to the ministry.
Two people had been aboard. The ministry stated that the Qatari citizen died after being struck by shrapnel tied to military activity in the surrounding area. The second occupant, an Arab resident, was taken to hospital and remains in stable condition.
Officials said an inquiry into the incident is proceeding under standard legal procedures.
In its statement, the ministry offered condolences to the family of the man who died and expressed hopes for the recovery of the survivor.
