Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has announced the country will discontinue its temporary visa extension policy beginning June 7, 2026, reverting to standard immigration procedures after months of emergency accommodation for stranded visitors.
The temporary measure had been introduced on March 3, when the ministry announced that entry visas would be extended starting February 28 following airspace closures triggered by the conflict involving Iran. The original decision acknowledged that visitors had been unable to depart the country under the circumstances, and left open the possibility of further extensions depending on how the situation developed.
With regional conditions having stabilized, the grace period is coming to an end. From June 7, Qatar will resume applying “approved procedures and guidelines for all types of entry visas, including the specified validity periods and fees for each type,” the ministry stated.
The Interior Ministry has directed residents, visitors, and other affected parties to verify their current legal status and take necessary steps to renew their visas where applicable. Those who remain in the country beyond the validity of their visa without renewal will be subject to penalties for overstaying the permitted duration of stay. All relevant fees must be settled within the designated timeframes, and individuals whose visas have lapsed must exit the country accordingly.
