A thermal incinerator at Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Davao City became the disposal site for ₱48,609,508.04 worth of dangerous drugs on June 17, as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) marked the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The burning began around 9 a.m. at the facility located along J. Camus Extension corner Jose Abad Santos Street. The drugs slated for destruction had been seized, confiscated, or voluntarily surrendered across Regions 11 and 13.
Shabu accounted for the bulk of the haul. Region 11 contributed 5,505.1667 grams pegged at ₱37.44 million, while Region 13 supplied another 1,267.3105 grams worth ₱8.62 million. Marijuana from the two regions totaled 14,112.1354 grams, with Davao’s share valued at ₱1.59 million and Caraga’s at ₱99,933.92.
Synthetic and other substances rounded out the tally. From Region 11 came 494 ecstasy tablets worth ₱839,800, alongside 0.9467 grams of cocaine valued at ₱5,017, 162 vape products at ₱11,900, and assorted dangerous drugs amounting to ₱1,389.32. Region 13 added three ecstasy tablets pegged at ₱5,100.
Officials from the judiciary, the Department of Justice, the Public Attorney’s Office, civil society groups, local government, and the press observed the proceedings.
PDEA cited Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, as the legal basis governing how confiscated drug evidence must be disposed of.
