OFWs can now use GCash to pay OWWA membership fees from anywhere in the world

Overseas Filipino workers worldwide can now settle their OWWA membership contributions through a mobile payments platform, following a formal agreement signed last month between the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and GCash.

The memorandum of agreement, executed on March 27, opens up the GCash app’s Bills Pay feature and other integrated digital services as payment channels for OWWA membership dues — removing the need for OFWs to go through lengthier processes to maintain their standing.

At stake is uninterrupted access to a range of government welfare benefits. Active OWWA members are entitled to repatriation assistance, healthcare coverage, legal aid, and various reintegration programs — services that have taken on added urgency as tensions in the Middle East continue to affect Filipino workers in the region.

The agency expects the arrangement to benefit more than two million OFW members globally, giving them a faster and more secure way to pay regardless of where they are posted.

The GCash tie-up is part of a broader push by OWWA to modernize its service delivery and expand financial inclusion among overseas Filipinos through private sector partnerships.
