Visitors booking flights into Abu Dhabi on Etihad will find medical travel insurance built into their fare beginning in July, with coverage extending up to 15 days for the length of their visit to the UAE.
The benefit covers Etihad-operated services running from July through December 2026. No separate sign-up is needed, and it attaches automatically to qualifying tickets, as long as both the booking location and the journey’s starting point sit outside the UAE.
Coverage has been arranged by Etihad Airways alongside the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi. The National Insurance Company, Daman, which operates under PureHealth, handles the underwriting and administration.
Because international travellers typically arrange their own medical policies ahead of a trip, the airline is positioning the bundled cover as a way to strip out a recurring step in pre-departure planning. The timing coincides with a stretch of the year when the emirate is courting more leisure arrivals and stopover guests.
“Giving comprehensive medical insurance with every eligible Etihad ticket means our guests can focus entirely on experiencing the extraordinary Emirati hospitality Abu Dhabi has to offer,” said Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways. “This is what it looks like when an airline and a destination truly invest in their visitors.”
Passengers who route through Abu Dhabi using Etihad’s complimentary Stopover Programme fall under the same protection for the length of their stay, subject to the relevant terms and conditions. That extension hands the carrier another selling point for travellers weighing a break in the capital as they move across its network.
Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, framed the tie-up as a marker for how destinations should treat arrivals. “This initiative ensures we meet that demand with an exceptional, end-to-end visitor experience,” he said. “Our partnership with Etihad will set a new benchmark for destination standards and ensure our guests feel welcomed, valued, and cared for from the moment they book.”
The arrangement lands as Abu Dhabi continues to broaden what it offers across heritage, culture, family outings and entertainment, with sites such as Saadiyat Island, Yas Island and Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque anchoring much of that draw.
