If you’re planning to fly into the UAE for a trade show, an industry summit or a cultural festival, there’s now a visa built specifically for that purpose. The Events Visit Visa is a dedicated entry permit for people attending or taking part in events across the country — and it works a little differently from the standard tourist visa most travelers are familiar with.
Here’s what it covers, who qualifies, and how the application actually works.
What it is
The Events Visit Visa is a temporary entry permit for international visitors coming to the UAE for conferences, exhibitions, summits, festivals and similar gatherings. It spans a broad set of categories — economic, cultural, educational, sporting, religious and community events — and is aimed at three groups in particular: participants, exhibitors and visitors.
It was introduced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) as one of four new visit visa types, alongside permits for artificial intelligence specialists, entertainment professionals and maritime tourism. The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai) has since spelled out the eligibility rules and stay options in detail.
The key difference: The organizer applies, not you
This is the part that trips people up. With a regular tourist visa, you apply on your own behalf. With the Events Visit Visa, the permit is tied to a specific approved event, and the event’s organizer drives the process.
The hosting entity — either a government body or an approved private-sector organization — first has to secure an approved participant quota, telling authorities how many attendees it expects, for example 100 or more. Once that quota is granted, the organizer can sponsor visa applications for its invited guests.
As the applicant, your part is to submit a sponsorship letter from the organizer that outlines the nature of the event and how long it runs, along with the other supporting documents. In short: you can’t get this visa without an approved event backing you.
What kinds of events qualify
The visa covers a wide spread of gatherings, including:
- International conferences and corporate summits
- Trade exhibitions and business conventions
- Cultural, entertainment and sports festivals
- Educational forums and academic gatherings
- Community programs and public events
- Religious and economic meetings
How long you can stay
The visa is issued with a validity of 30 or 60 days, and you can get it as single-entry or multiple-entry. It’s renewable and extendable when needed, up to a maximum cumulative stay of 120 days.
The multiple-entry option is the useful one for exhibitors, organizers and business professionals who are hopping in and out of the country for a run of meetings or events rather than a single trip.
Why it exists
The idea is to make it simpler for delegates, speakers and exhibitors to get into the country for approved events, while feeding the UAE’s meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sector. More broadly, it’s part of the country’s effort to pull in international visitors, support the hospitality industry, and hold its position as a leading global events destination.
