New remittance updates make it easier for UAE residents to send money to the Philippines

UAE residents sending money abroad through Careem Pay now have additional pathways as the platform rolls out three new remittance features aimed at faster delivery and wider access for recipients. The updates add mobile wallet transfers to Egypt, cash pickup in Lebanon, and expanded wallet and cash pickup services across the Philippines.

The digital payments service now supports transfers to more than 35 countries, covering major corridors such as India, Pakistan, Egypt, the Philippines, Canada, Europe, and the UK. Transactions are designed to be completed quickly and securely, with certain routes delivering funds within seconds. Members subscribed to Careem Plus receive preferential pricing on Careem Pay transfers.

For Egypt, users can send up to AED 8,000 per transaction directly to mobile wallets, with funds credited in Egyptian Pounds within about 30 minutes. Supported destinations include Vodafone Cash, Orange Money, etisalat by e&, We Pay, and any wallet connected to the Meeza Network. In Lebanon, the service enables USD cash pickups of up to AED 8,000 per transfer through a partnership with Whish Money, allowing beneficiaries to collect funds within minutes from more than 1,000 locations nationwide. Philippine transfers now allow up to AED 6,000 for wallet credits and up to AED 8,000 for cash pickup, with access to 14,750 collection points across the country.

Mohammad El Saadi, VP of Careem Pay, said: “We’re excited to expand our remittance offering with services that address real customer needs. Egypt’s mobile wallet adoption is soaring, especially among younger users. Lebanon’s banking crisis means people need reliable ways to send USD for cash pickup. And for the Philippines, one of the world’s largest remittance corridors, we’ve dramatically improved speed with our direct GCash integration while adding essential cash pickup options. From supporting families and covering school fees to managing financial commitments back home, we wanted to make cross-border transfers simpler, faster, and more affordable.”

Industry estimates place annual remittance flows from the UAE to the Philippines at about USD 3.5 billion, with roughly 30% of transfers collected in cash. The UAE–Egypt corridor is valued at approximately USD 8.1 billion each year. In Lebanon, prolonged liquidity constraints and low confidence in traditional banking have increased reliance on cash-based remittance channels for refugees and unbanked communities.

Careem Pay operates as part of a broader payments platform focused on simplifying financial services in the region, offering peer-to-peer and international transfers, bill payments, and other digital wallet functions.
